What to consider when choosing a dance school:  Cindy Lopresti, one of In Step's Artistic Directors, advises parents to look beyond the surface to what really happens in the dance class they are considering. "Ask the right questions," says Lopresti, "and you can't go wrong. Observe or try a class before signing up." Another very important consideration is the credentials of the teachers. Lopresti has danced professionally and holds a degree from The Ohio State University in Elementary Education in the Unified Arts. Artistic Director Heidi Beerman graduated magna cum laude from OSU's prestigious Department of Dance and both women are in-demand as choreographers and talent judges. Beerman advises, "When all the glitter is stripped away, can the students really dance? Do they learn correct terminology and technique in a friendly hands-on setting?"

Make an informed choice ...   Most dance studios offer spacious rooms and a receptionist in the lobby. But do the teachers exemplify and promote the character traits you want your children to develop? Find out what your friends and neighbors say - is there positive word of mouth about the studio and its faculty? How many annual performance opportunities are offered? Is the recital organized and run in a timely manner? What do the classes and costumes cost? Are you required to purchase your shoes and dancewear from the studio? Can you fundraise, and what percentage of fundraising money goes directly to you? "The bottom line", says Lopresti, "is to thoroughly check all your options so that you feel confident you have made the right choice for your children."
